Facebook vs Google Plus Layouts

Designing a web site has to take into consideration the variety of computer users across the globe whose likes and dislikes vary a lot. This also holds true in social networking sites, such that the Facebook profile layout has seen its share of changes over the years to improve its design. With the introduction of Google Plus, there now are two popular choices for social networking and users of both sites have noted the differences.

For example, there are those who say that Google Plus backgrounds are less congested in look and cleaner in details than the Facebook profile layouts, pointing out the easy to use drag-and-drop feature of Google as against the click-and-type of Facebook.

Changes in Facebook Layouts

Facebook Layout Changes

Computer users are not immune to constant changes in the design of web sites including social networking sites such as Facebook. In fact every time a change occurred in the Facebook Layout over the past few years it was readily noticed by the millions of users who need to keep abreast of developments.

In September 2008 all Facebook users literally faced a redesigned layout when they signed in to their individual accounts. It was called the New Facebook, but users were already introduced to it earlier so that they could opt for it and forego the original design. The old layout was completely redesigned to a less cluttered look. All profiles were made to fit the same basic layout and divided into tabs. The new bottom bar featured an applications menu. All these and a few more required the users to adapt immediately for them to enjoy the full use of the features.

Another full redesign of the Facebook took place in early 2011 with a new navigation menu on the left hand side, among other noticeable changes. This new design was actually first seen in December 2010 when it was accidentally launched by Facebook. Users said goodbye to the previous tabbing system as they began experiencing a new navigation menu. Page admins were now able to comment on other Pages and add info at the top of their Pages. These and other new features gave users a new field for creative uses of the Facebook Pages.

There is all probability that Facebook will radically change again any time soon as it has through the years. There have even been times when small changes were introduced, which could very well lead to a larger overall new makeup. Will the new Facebook Layout be to everyone’s content or will there be the usual critics who prefer no changes?

Let us know what you think of the current Facebook layout. Do you like it? What about the Facebook Chat? How do you think it could be improved?

Facebook Layout Critics

Every time Facebook changes its layout, and this has occurred a number of times already since the social networking site opened itself to the world, users have been turned into critics for or against the changes. The different Facebook Layouts have elicited either approving or disapproving comments from different users themselves.

For example, in September 2008 when the New Facebook featured a completely redesigned layout, a great number of users opposed it, even forming themselves into several groups to voice out their views. They said the new layout was all messed up. But there were those who liked the change because they said the new layout was really cleaner and less cluttered. Some users who initially opposed the change eventually came to like the new feel after getting used to it. Plenty of users debated on the issue of freedom of choice but all had to adopt the new Facebook layout.
